Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee (Xiamen, China)
Project Start Date: March of 2022
Project Location: Xiamen, China
Project Overview:
The Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee was a polar research vessel operated by Xiamen University, completed in 2017. It has a length of 78 meters (approx. 255.91 ft), a width of 17 meters (approx. 55.77 ft), with a draft of approximately 5.2 meters (approx.17.06 ft), and a deadweight capacity of 1,227 tons with total gross tonnage of 3,611 tons. The Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee was designed for the polar and the deep-sea research missions. The vessel was equipped with an advanced low-noise sonar, radar, and communication systems, making it well-suited for hydrographic, geological, and marine environmental studies.
Bimodeling employed specialized instruments for the detailed data collection on the Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee, utilizing the company's BIM collaborative data and digital reverse engineering technology to generate the model of the Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee.
Project Details:
After establishing a detailed model of the Research Vessel Tan Kah Kee, Bimodeling utilized Virtual Reality (VR) technology to implement interactive features with each compartment on the ship. These features allowed personnel to familiarize themselves with the environment in an immersive way prior to boarding, enabling them to quickly adapt to the interior spaces of the vessel.
